Prior to commencing his position as Principal of Coburg Senior in April 2006, Don spent the previous six years in the role of Principal of Monterey Secondary College. He has experience in two schools as an Assistant Principal ~ Lakes Entrance Secondary College and Westall Secondary College in Clayton South. Don's teaching experience includes remote, rural and metropolitan schools.

"It has been a pleasure and a priviledge to be part of the team that has created Coburg Senior. More than a school, it is a workplace of learning where students and staff work in an open plan environment where students and teachers work together to create powerful learning opportunites and outcomes. The learning is maximised through access to Apple technologies distributed at point of need throughout the learning commons in the school and the capacity of the staff to support students harness the possibilities such technologies present.

Technology is but a tool to enable, engage and enhance. The magic happens when teachers lead students to understanding and allow them to demonstrate and create their learning in new and different ways. "

Important to Don are high quality teaching and learning practices which foster excellence. Passionate teaching that is linked to deep knowledge of subject is critical. The capacity of the teacher to share such understanding and enthusiasm with the student in a manner that allows discovery of complexities of the topic is crucial.

He believes a high level of responsibility and accountability must be given to senior students so they take control of their own success and the manner in which they contribute to the school and the wider community. Students must become discerning and discriminating thinkers, able to address complex and ethical issues and the problems and questions associated with each.
